One of Manchester’s longest running spoken word and new writing events is back at The King’s Arms, Salford on Monday 25th March!
Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and two wonderful headliners every month. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.

Meet the headliners !….. Kieran King and Stefan Mohamed
Kieren King is a Salford-based spoken word artist. He is best known as the co-creator and former host of popular Manchester spoken word nights, Evidently the Word War Slams, and Bang Said The Gun: Manchester, is a former Great Northern Slam Champion and a 4-time UK National Slam finalist (2016, 2017, 2023 & 2024).
Kieren has been writing and performing his work since 2008 and has featured at various festivals and many spoken word nights throughout the UK and Europe, including Glastonbury Festival and several performances for Amnesty International and Musicians Without Borders. He was also hand-picked by Guy Garvey of Elbow to curate a Spoken Word event as part of his Meltdown festival at the Southbank Centre and by writer and former NME journalist and Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam for his Not Quite Light weekender.
He appeared on the BBC Radio 4 show Power Lines and was commissioned to write and perform a poem for TV by SKY for their channel Blaze.
His proudest achievement is once being recognised in Greggs and getting a free pasty.
Stefan Mohamed is an award winning author and poet who has been performing since 2012, and has featured at nights like Raise the Bar, Milk Poetry and VERVE Poetry Night, and festivals such as Wilderness, Shambala and Secret Garden Party. He has also performed at the Anti-Slam, BBC Upload Festival and the LYRA Bristol Poetry Festival Slam. His latest poetry collection Farewell Tour came out in September 2022 with Verve Poetry Press, which he has been touring as a poetry show over the last 18 months to excellent reviews. “Constant lyrical invention” – Luke Kennard. “Thrilling loop-the-loops of language” – Philip Gross. “Fresh, contemporary and enormous fun” – The Scotsman.
